January 13, 1864

DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Richmond, Virginia, January 13, 1864  A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy with a wealth of war-related news, from the Confederate perspective.

The ftpg. includes: "The War News" "Meat Supplies" "Congress--The General Appropriations" "the Heroine of Tennessee" (small wear hole here) "Arrival in Richmond of Captain Hines of General Morgan's Command--An Interesting Narrative of His Re-Capture & Subsequent Successful Escape" being interesting reading (see for portions).

The back page features the always interesting editorial, taking a full column. It begins: "Unity of will is absolutely essential to the successful command of an army...While no sensible observer will contest that our condition is most serious & that very great dangers environ the path of the republic through the next summer..." and much more (see for portions). Also on the bkpg: "Arrival of Confederate Prisoners at Chicago" "Assistant Quartermaster" "Rumours From Richmond" plus there is much reporting from: "The Confederate Congress".

Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a full banner masthead. There is a red-inked stamp near the top of the front page, perhaps a postal mark but too lightly inked for me to confirm (see photo). In nice condition with minimal edge wear (& the noted hole), generally in nice condition.
