Lincoln is carried 'hither & tither' by the massive crowd...

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Aug. 17, 1860 Page 3 has report that describes the scene at the Republican rally at Springfield, Illinois including mention of a two mile procession that passed Lincoln's home where he stood on the porch smiling at the crowd. Also included is the text of the speech that he delivered & noting the immense applause, and when he retired from the grounds he: "...was seized upon and carried hither and tither..." by the massive crowd.
