June 28, 1817

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Maryland, June 28, 1817 Inside has more than a full page headed: "Declaration of Independence" dated at Philadelphia, June 16, 1817. This is a lengthy letter from Thomas McKean, a member of the Continental Congress & signer of the Declaration of Independence, in which he clarifies the errors noted concerning the men who had actually declared in favor of Independence on July 4, 1776. His letter provides some very interesting information, and in considerable detail. Curiously, McKean died just 6 days after writing this letter.
Sixteen pages, 6 1/4 by 9 3/4 inches, in very good condition.

This small size newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the 19th century. As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
