The back page has a report noting: "On Monday, May 10, the two great divisions of the Pacific Railroad, i.e. the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific, accomplished their junction at Promontory Point, Utah, by laying the last rail & tie, & driving the last spike. The following is the official announcement of its competition..." which has the official report datelined: "Promontory Summit, Utah, May 10" & reads in part: "The last rail is laid! The spike driven! The Pacific Railroad is completed. The point of junction is 1,086 miles west of the Missouri River, and 960 miles east of Sacramento City..." with a bit more (see).
