THE WORLD, New York, December 17, 1894

* Nellie Bly expose reporting
* "In Trinity's Tenements"

Nellie Bly is perhaps most famous for her trip around the world, which turned the fictional work by Jules Vernes' "Around the World in Eighty Days" into fact for the first time. But there were various other projects which consumed her journalistic career, perhaps most notably her undercover work in exposing the poor treatment of patients at the Blackwell Island asylum for the insane.
This issue has one of her articles (she did a few over the years) on page 5 headed: "IN TRINITY'S TENEMENTS" with subheads and related illustration (see). Lengthy article is signed at its conclusion: Nellie Bly. See photos for portion of the text here.
Since Nellie Bly was a reporter for "The World" this would be the only newspaper in which this report would be found making this a very rare item.
This issue has some major margin wear and chipping, loose at the spine, must be handled with care. Sold as is.
