THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, March 7, 1782
* re. Surrender of Lord Cornwallis
* Revolutionary War - Yorktown, Virginia
Inside has news headed: "America - From the South Carolina Gazette", the first article being critical of how France treats the people of Yorktown, with thoughts of uniting with England. Another report from Charleston is also cynical of the intentions of France in America.
Page 6 has a report from the House of Lords with mention: "...That the immediate cause of the surrender of the army under Earl Cornwallis, at York Town, in Virginia, was owing to the want of a sufficient naval force to protect the same...The capture of Lord Cornwallis's army was indeed a melancholy event; it was at once a fatal and decisive blow..." and so much more, taking over a full page. The bkpg. has a small item concerning Mr. Laurens role in working out a peace treaty with England, with mention of Ben Franklin & John Adams (see).
Eight pages, 9 by 12 inches, never bound nor trimmed, very nice condition.
