Page 4 has mention from London: "...that a commission is preparing for Sir Guy Carleton to treat of peace with the Americans..." and other items including text of a handbill from New England: "People of America. The crisis of success which Providence has granted you calls upon you to propose peace & commercial alliance with Great Britain..." (see).
Elsewhere from the House of Commons: "...That to carry on any longer an offensive war in America or the impracticable object of reducing the Colonies to obedience by force, would only tend to weaken our efforts against our European enemies...". The bkpg. includes: "...dispatches from Sir Henry Clinton containing a state of the garrison at New York, & giving an account of several skirmishes...It is said Mr. Laurens, through the medium of Doctor Franklin, is certainly vested with powers from the American Congress for treating of a separate peace with Great Britain...".
Eight pages, 9 by 12 inches, never bound nor trimmed, nice condition.
