Half of a page is taken up with a very critical letter "To Lord Viscount Howe" on his conduct in America, bits including: "...how eagerly you catch at every opportunity of answering accusations brought against you in every instance where you think you can do it...charted not merely with not having done your best against the King's enemies but with having in effect done nothing at all against them...at the time you took the command of the King's fleet every one of the rebel ports from Boston to Charlestown were open to your attacks. That you had it in your power to destroy the rebel shipping in every one of them...Is not the public & your own honour as much concerned to know why you did nothing with the King's fleet for the two years of your command, as it is to know in what year it was that you played at chess with Dr. Franklin?..." with more (see).
Another page has an item: "The last demand Dr. Franklin made on the Court of Versailles was for a loan only...that money was so much wanted by congress that without it their independency must be abandoned." (see photos). The bkpg. has a few items including: "...French ship of was carrying clothing for 30,000 men was taken in the Chesapeak...& carried into New York...also on board 30 guns, two & thirty pounders, for the assistance of the rebels..." and also: "At Rhode Island it was reported that the English army carried all before them in the Carolinas, but that to strengthen Lord Cornwallis, Sir Henry Clinton had detached two great division of the best troops...".
Eight pages, 8 1/4 by 11 1/4 inches, very nice condition.
