THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, Oct. 24, 1776

* Battle of Long Island - Brooklyn
* George Washington vs. William Howe
* American Revolutionary War

The entire front page is part of an ongoing article: "An American Criticism on Price's Libel Against Great Britain in favour of America" which relates to the Revolutionary War.
Page 2 has a report from Philadelphia which begins: "The defeat of the provincial forces at Long Island was in a great measure owing to the bad conduct of Lord Stirling who neglected sending a proper force for the defence of the heights above Flatbush..." with much more, including: "Gen. Washington is at Kingsbridge; the grand army under his command consists of about 33,000 men. Lee is ordered by the Congress to make an attack upon St. Augustine..." and also from Long Island: "...deserters are coming over daily to us & the rebels are going off from New York in large bodies, even in broad daylight. All accounts agree that they are preparing to evacuate that town...".
There are are other reports concerning the Revolutionary war including events in the New York vicinity, plus a letter from Virginia concerning Indian troubles and including an historic item from Penna. reading  in part: "...a plan for executing the resolve of congress of the 15th of May last, for suppressing all authority in this province derived from the crown of Great Britain...unanimously declare our willingness to concur in a vote of the congress declaring the United Colonies free and independent states; Providing the forming the government & the regulation of the internal policy of this colony, but always reserved to the people of said colony..." with more.
The bkpg. has several nice war-related reports including some nice particulars on the Battle of Long Island, and a letter beginning: "The city of New York is evacuated by the provincials on account of an infectious distemper that raged there...General Howe would not suffer his army to enter the town but is following the provincials into New England it he overtakes them & strikes such another blow as he did at Long Island..." with more. A very fine issue with some nice, historic content.
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 1/4 inches, bit of foxing, nice condition.
