October 16, 1863

DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, Oct. 16, 1863  A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederate States. The front page contain various war-related and other events, including items headed: "From Northern Virginia" "The Yankees In Eastern Virginia" "The Virginia Legislature" "Lincoln to Hold Over For Another Term" "The Truth Plainly Told" "City Intelligence" "The Courts" "From the Army of Northern Virginia--The Enemy Rapidly Retreating" "Skirmishing In Northern Mississippi" "From Charleston" and other smaller items.
Back page reporting begins with the always interesting editorial, which has near the beginning: "A veil seems...to cover the operations of war...The enemy is retreating & will probably continue to do so until he reaches the cover of the entrenched lines...Meade is the most modest of Yankee commanders..." and much more (see for portions). Other back page items include: "Latest News From the North" "Raids in the Enemy's Lines" "Yankee Soldiers in Baltimore" "The Very Latest Rumours" and other smaller items.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, a portion of the top, blank margin missing causing no text loss, otherwise in nice condition.
