December 19, 1903

THE OMAHA DAILY BEE, Nebraska, Dec. 19, 1903

* Famous Wright Brothers flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
* Orville & Wilbur Wright - Historic 1st report on the airplane

Page 7 has a relatively inconspicuous report which announces one of the more significant events of the early 20th century: manned flight. The one column heads include: "IS A REAL FLYING MACHINE" "Ohioan's Invention Rises Sails and Lights as Desired" "Engine And Propellers The Force" "In First Test Machine Soars Through Space for Three Miles and Then Descends to Selected Landing Place". The dateline is Norfolk ,Va., Dec. 18, with the text beginning: "A successful trial of a flying machine was made yesterday near Kitty Hawk, N.C. by Wilbur and Orville Wright of Dayton, O...." with some details (see).
An extremely significant event in aviation history, not reported by all newspapers of the day.
Complete in 16 pages, very fragile as is typical of newspapers of this era so it must be handled carefully. Some archival mends at margins, some chipping at margins, irregular & partially loose at the spine. Must be handled with care.
