Part of the magic of this issue is the date. All issues of the Chronicle (and many other titles of the period) were double-dated, with the date span of news the issue covered. This title was published 3 times a week and the dateline reads: "...July 4, to Saturday, July 6, 1776". It is always exceedingly desirable to have a newspaper with a July 4, 1776 date.
Page 2 has some American content, with: "..waited with great impatience the arrival of Lord Howe with the men of war & troops from England, & that they will then sail for New York...the Provincials come over in such abundance to the King's forces & navy, that the Admiral & General Howe have forbid to receive any more of them, there being no more room for them on board the fleet...By way of reprisals for the depredations Lord Dunmore committed among the Provincials, he found his palace at Williamsburgh on his return to it, stripped of all its furniture, which was sold by public auction."
An inside pg. has a great document headed: "American United Colonies, In Congress, May 15, 1776" which is a statement concerning the lack of ability to give allegiance to the King and the desire to authorize each of the 13 colonies to form a new provincial government, which is signed in type by the President: John Hancock.
