Very rare title from this old mining town.... No issues held by any institution...

Item # 643747

May 31, 1883

THE MINING GAZETTE, Canon (Canyon City), Colorado, May 31, 1883  An exceedingly rare title as Gregory's "Union List of American Newspapers" notes only the Kansas Historical Society as having had any issues of this title and those few issues were recently purchased by us. This newspaper was published by Henry W. Comstock (any relation to Henry Comstock for whom the Comstock Lode was named?) in this city which grew during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush.
The best feature is the great engraving in the masthead showing the Rocky Mt. range with key cities identified including Leadville, Breckenridge, Silverton, Crested Butte & many more (see).
Eight pages, 11 by 14 1/2 inches, mostly mining related items and a great wealth of ads. Very nice condition. The word "Review" is penned at the very top (see).

Item from Catalog 262 (released for September, 2017)...
