THE NEW YORK TIMES, September 23, 1941

* The Yellow Star "Star of David" badge
* Jewish Holocaust heightens
* Jude - Jews - Judaica

The top of page 9 has a notable Judaica report, headed: "Nazis To Banish Jews Failing To Wear Star" with subhead: "Prison Camp to Be Punishment Even for Children's Laxity". The article clarifies the specifics as to how & when the Jews are to wear the Star of David, noting specifically: "...The Jews were informed it must be worn where it may be seen every moment a Jew is outside his own home...If a Jew steps into his yard in his shirtsleeves, he must have a star on his shirt. If a Gentile rings his doorbell, the Jew must wear the star when he opens the door..." and noting also that: "...Jews who hide the star by covering it with a briefcase or shopping bag in the streets may be sent to concentration camps..." with more (see photos). This was when the Jewish holocaust would become much worse. I suspect this is one of the few publications to report this particular event as other titles in our inventory do not.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 46 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.
