Babe Ruth's first home run record breaker...
Item # 643407
September 9, 1919
NEW YORK TIMES, Sept. 9, 1919
* Babe Ruth's 1st home run record breaker
* When he was a Boston Red Sox pitcher
* MLB baseball
The sports page (pg. 20) has a banner headline announcing: "Yanks Lose Twice And See Record Broken When Babe Ruth Gets His 26th Home Run" plus first column heads: "Ruth Knocks Out His 26th Homer" "Red Sox Pitcher, the Sensation of Baseball History, Makes New Record" "Lowers 20 Year Old Mark" "Buck Freeman's String of 25 Circuit Clouts Had Held Since 1899" and a bit more (see).
A very significant sports issue as this first record-breaker for Babe Ruth thrust him into national prominence in the sports world, where he would remain. And interesting that he accomplished this as a member of the Boston Red Sox in a game against the Yankees. This would be his last season with Boston as four months later he would be bought by the Yankees.
Complete in 36 pages, disbinding slits at the blank spine margin, minimal margin wear, usual browning, generally good. Somewhat fragile so it should be handled with care.
