August 14, 1779

THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, Aug. 14, 1779  page 2 has a letter from New York which notes: "...ship the Panther...which she took without opposition near Boston. She was first seen under provincial colours, then English, & when the Panther came near her  she hoisted French...had in her hold 50 pieces of cannon, 350 barrels of gunpowder..." (see).
Half a page is taken up with a: "Copy of a Letter form Stephen Sayre to Isaac Sears, Merchant in Boston" which includes near  the end: "...am amazed at the impudence of any man in daring to suppress correspondence & know not how to account for it, that Dr. Franklin refuses to send me some letters now in his hands--also neglects to answer me..." with more (see). Another page has: "...tell us at the last attack of Rhode Island under Gen. Sullivan having had one arm carried away by a ball, he afterwards took two pieces of cannon from the enemy himself with the other, besides shewing farther extraordinary feats of bravery." Most of a column is taken up with a Resolve headed: "Committee of the House of Delegates in Virginia" which relates to: "...those inhabitants of this state who were beyond sea at the commencement of hostilities at Lexington...and joined the subjects of his Britannic Majesty since the said commencement of hostilities & before the declaration of independence, or the act of the General Assembly subsequent thereto, entitled an act declaring what shall be treason..." with much more (see).
Eight pages, 8 1/4 by 11 inches, very nice, clean condition.
