Page 7 has column heads: "WASHINGTON" "The Administration and the Wall Street Panic" "Fisk Seeking the Presidential Confidence" "The Gold Gamblers' Spoiled by the President". Also interesting that pg. 3 has: "RELIGIOUS" "Sermons & Services Yesterday" "The Ministers of God on the Disciples of Mammon" "Lessons for 'the Street' and from 'the Street' " with more, on religious services focusing on the gold panic.
This is a report on the great gold panic of 1869 when wealthy financiers Fisk and Gould caused a financial panic by attempting to corner the gold market. It was one of several scandals that rocked the presidency of Ulysses S. Grant (see Wikipedia).
