There is a full page of text on an: "Extract of a Letter from Mr. John Smith on board the Success Frigate...dated at Charles-Town [Charleston] in S. Carolina" with some good reading (see photos for portions).
Among other items in this issue are:
* a fullpg. chart of the "Grain Exported from Christmas 1738 to Christmas 1739"
* a continuation of the "Art of Deciphering", actually translating various languages, this issue focusing on Italian & Greek.
* "Instructions to Members of Parliament
There is much reporting on events in Parliament under the guise of: "Proceedings & Debates in the Senate of Lilliput" as direct reporting on Parliamentary events was prohibited.
Near the back is a section headed: "Historical Chronicle" with news from England & other parts of Europe.
Complete in 54 pgs. with full title/index page which contains an engraving of St. John's Gate. Measures about 5 1/2 by 9 inches, the pages are irregularly trimmed, otherwise in very good condition.
A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
There are no maps or plates called for in this issue.
