News from America...

Item # 643200 THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, May, 1786  One of the articles is: "Circumstances Relative to the Discovery of Henry I's Bones". A wide range of other articles as well.
Near the back is "American Intelligence" which includes: "An act was passed on the 11th of March...authorising the delegates of the province of South Carolina...to subscribe & ratify an agreement for altering part of the articles of confederation & perpetual union..." which would eventually lead to a new Constitution in just over a year (see). This is followed by some content concerning the Indians as well. The balance of the issue is mostly taken up with European concerns.
Included are the two plates called for, one a foldout showing views of the cathedral at Normandy. The other includes the images of 2 churches in Dublin (see).
Complete in 88 pages, 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 inches, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, very nice, clean condition.

A very nice magazine from the "mother country" not long after the end of the Revolutionary War. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
