Inside has: "Advices From America" has very nice content, beginning: "Many thousands from the province of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut & Penna. have already come in & claimed the benefit of the late proclamation for his Majesty's free pardon...The congress have put a public affront on Mr. Washington by stating their whole dependence upon Mr. Lee, who they intended to have made their commander in chief..." with more.
This is followed by a fine letter with an historic report beginning: "Several skirmishes between the King's troops & the rebels have lately happened in the Jerseys. But the most distinguishing rencounter occurred on the 3rd instant, near Princetown..." and what follows is an account of the Battle of Princeton, an important victory for Washington.
Then a letter from Brunswick with more war items, then a letter dated Jan. 15 with more, and yet another letter with war content, including a very notable report: "...The defeat of a party of the Hessians proves too true; it seems they were surprised by a very superior body of the enemy and about 700 made prisoners, their commander Reilly (I think) [actually Rall] was killed in the action." with further content (see). And another account includes: "...confirm the surprize of the Hessians, but differ as to the number killed & wounded...The brave Col. Reilly [Rall] was stabbed with bayonets by the rebels after calling for quarter...a brigade of 1200 hessian under Colonel Reilly, were surprized by a large body of southern troops under the command of Mr. Washington at Trenton..." and even more, including ak report of the capture of General Lee! A terrific issue with reports on two notable reports on major battles of the Revolutionary War. Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 inches, very nice condition.
