One of the more popular and successful newspapers of the West Coast from during the Civil War. And page 2 prints one of the most famous speeches in American history, the Gettysburg Address.
It is headed: "President Lincoln's Address at Gettysburg" and has nice prefacing comments, mostly about the address of the featured speaker, Edward Everett. Portions include: "The consecration of the Soldiers' Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pa., took place on the 19th of November...The oration of Edward Everett was, as all hs orations are, exceedingly appropriate and elegant. It required two hours for its delivery..." with more on Everett. Than it notes: "...After the oration & a dirge by a choir...President Lincoln was introduced. We have room to-day for little farther notice of the consecration exercises than to copy entire the President's speech. Of course it was short, pithy, and practical. He said: " and what follows is the complete text of the Gettysburg Address.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, very large folio size measuring 21 by 28 inches, just a slight bit of rubbing, generally nice condition. Folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
