SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, New York, July 18, 1863

* Battle of Gettysburg - Pennsylvania
* Robert E. Lee's Northern invasion

Although not expected in this scientific journal, page 3 does contain a report mentioning the battle of Gettysburg although lacking the detail expected in a daily newspaper (see).
Under the heading: "Major-General George Gordon Meade", a portion of the report includes: "...Meade...put it in rapid motion towards Gettysburgh, Pennsylvania, at which place the rebels under General Lee were in large force, 'flushed with the pride of successful invasion'. In a series of brilliant...battles...and continuing three days, desperate charges were repeatedly made by the enemy...the brave army of the Potomac withstand the shock until the rebels were everywhere repulsed & commenced a rapid retreat...' with more. The balance of the article is a biography of Meade's military career, taking over a full column.
The same page has; "What the Rebels Propose to Do With Our Coal Mines" (see)
Complete in 16 pages, great condition.
