THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, October, 1774 Near the back is: "Account of the Proceedings of the American Colonies Since the Passing the Boston Port Bill, continued." which takes almost an entire page (see).Among the additional articles within are: "Guatemala Swallowed up by an Earthquake" "Account of Ten Men Surprised & Eaten by Savages" (in New Zealand); a full page plate of the "Harlequin Duck" which includes descriptive text mentioning: "...is found in the Northern Parts of Europe and America".
Included are both full page plates called for, one noted above.
Complete in 48 pages, 5 by 8 inches, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, very nice condition.
A very nice magazine from the "mother country" just before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
