This issue contains a number of items related to Merlin: "An Account of Merlin & his Cave..." which is a poem, "A Prophesy of Merlin 500 Years Ago, Interpreted", and "Of Merlin's Death..." (see). Another interesting item is: "Against Slavery & Oppression".
One of the intriguing aspects of this issue is a two-thirds page print headed: "A Representation of a fine Picture on the Alter Piece in the Church of St. James Clerken-well".
Among other articles noted in the table of contents are: "Instance Given in the South Sea Affair" "The Troops Plac'd to Preserve Peace" "The Numerous Executions in England Occasioned by the Defect of our Laws" "Hard Case of Smugglers" "Reflections on Liberty & Luxury" "Authority of Husbands Over their Wives" & more. Near the back is a section headed: "Monthly Intelligencer" with news reports from various parts of England & Europe.
Complete in 56 pages, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 inches with wide, untrimmed margins, very nice condition.
A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
