Report from the American colonies... Lord Baltimore...

Item # 642689 THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, May, 1733

* The death report of Barton Booth
* Poem (extracts) written by Lord Baltimore
* Value of crops in the American colonies

Probably the most notable item is the obituary of Barton Booth (page 269), one of the most celebrated dramatic actors of the early-mid 1700's.

Another interesting article has: "Extracts of a Poem to Lord Baltimore".

Included also is a nice article titled: "The Case Stated betwixt the Sugar Colonies in the Islands and those on the Continent of America" which takes over a full page (see images) which is a nice & early report on the American colonies.

Among the additional articles noted in the table of contents are: "Popery, The Standing Cause of It", "On the Proposed Marriage of the Princess Royal with the Pr. of Orange", "Of Governing by a Party", and more.

Complete in 54 pages with full title/contents page. Measures 5 by 8 inches and is in nice, untrimmed condition. This is from just the third year of this magazine's existence & before any maps or plates were included.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
