January 01, 1607

Very early German newsbook dated on the title page: 1607. Titled: AUSSFUHRLICHER BERICHT which crudely translates to: "FULL NEWS NOTICE" done by an editor from Germany by the name of Antonius Quirinus.
Complete in 48 pages, the back leaf being blank with the 46th page having a decorative, ending embellishment. Measures 5 7/8 by 7 1/2 inches, one of the middle leaves has a professional repair to a lower corner, otherwise the issue is in great condition. A bit of modern binding remnant at the spine edge.
A great opportunity not only for the earliest newspaper we currently have the pleasure to offer, but terrific that it is dated the year John Smith and his 104 companions landed on Jamestown Island in Virginia, making this a terrific relational printed (and dated) item for any American history collection.

As a nice piece of provenance, included is the letter dated Oct. 5, 1966, from the Dutch dealer from whom the newsbook was purchased, which is details the sale to the customer from whom we purchased the newsbook. Attached to the letter is the listing from the dealer's catalog, dated August, 1966. In over 50 years' time this issue has only had three owners.
