THE NEW YORK TIMES, May 15, 1936

* Edmund Allenby, 1st Viscount Allenby death
* English soldier and British Imperial Governor

The top of page 25 has a one column heading: "ALLENBY IS DEAD; CONQUERED TURKS" with subheads and two photos. Lengthy 1st report coverage here. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 52 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.

wikipedia notes: Field Marshal Edmund Henry Hynman Allenby, 1st Viscount Allenby, was an English soldier and British Imperial Governor. He fought in the Second Boer War and also in the First World War, in which he led the British Empire's Egyptian Expeditionary Force (EEF) during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign against the Ottoman Empire in the conquest of Palestine.
