She was the first African-American to be elected to the United States Congress; and in 1972 the first black candidate for a major party's nomination for President of the United States, and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination. This also includes a 6 1/2 x 4 /12 photo and a smaller more current photo of Mrs. Chisholm.
