* Saint Petersburg, Russia map
Perhaps the prime feature of this issue is the very nice foldout map titled within the decorative cartouche: "Plan of St. Petersburg with it's Fortifications, built by Peter the Great in 1703". One-third of the map shows: "The Harbour of Crownslot, the River Neva & Canal..." This map folds out to measure 8 1/2 by 10 1/2 inches. There is a related article as well: "References to the Principal Buildings of St. Petersburg".
Other interesting items within: "Consequences of Relaxing the Laws against Suicide" "Description & Use of a New Electrometer" with an illustration; "Description of a New Water Bellows" "Different Crocodiles" is concerning this animal in Georgia which also mentions Oglethorpe.
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has a report datelined from Boston, July 10, concerning events in Nova Scotia and Louisbourg (see).
Two other plates noted in the table of contents are lacking.
Complete in 48 pages, 5 1/2 by 8 3/4 inches with wide, untrimmed margins, full title/contents page, very nice condition.
A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
