THE NEW YORK TIMES, sport's section only, April 8, 1945

* Branch Rickey looking for Negro players ?
* Brooklyn Dodgers - Major League Baseball

It's well known that Branch Rickey, president of the Brooklyn Dodgers, was responsible for breaking the color barrier with the introduction of Jackie Robinson into Major League Baseball. But here is a report 2 years earlier that shows he was thinking on letting Negroes into MLB. Near the bottom of the front page is a two column heading that reads: "Two Negroes Are Tried Out by the Dodgers But They Fail to Impress President Rickey" (see) I suspect this is one of the few publications to report this particular event as other titles in our inventory do not. Rare as such.
Other sporting news of the day. Complete sport's section only with all 10 pages, light toning at the margin, nice.
