The top of page 3 has a one column heading: "MEDICAL 'OBJECTOR' AN OKINAWA HERO" with subhead. (see) First report coverage on Doss gaining fame for his exploits at the Battle of Okinawa. This was the first time Doss was mentioned in this famous newspaper publication. Doss is featured in the blockbuster movie "Hacksaw Ridge". Rare to find period reporting on Doss as well.
Other news, sports advertisements of the day. Complete in 26 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.
