August 03, 1786

THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England Aug. 3, 1786  Inside has more than a full page of: "American News" including reports from Congress concerning loaning military equipment to Mass. to fight the Shays' Rebellion. Also mention of a meeting with Cornplanter, chief of the Seneca Indian tribe. The most interesting report is that: "...his Excellency John Hancock, being prevented by sickness from attending Congress & executing the duties of President, has requested Congress to accept his resignation...and have appointed his Excellency Nathaniel Gorham their President until the first day of November next." Gorham did serve as President of Congress for five months (see hyperlink).
Another report concerns the Loyalists remaining in America, and yet another has a letter signed by: H. Knox, concerning a sword presentation to Rev. War hero Marinus Willet, with his response.
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 inches, great condition.
