THE DAILY ADVERTISER, New York, Feb. 14, 1789

* re. George Washington's election win

A nice newspaper from what was the nation's capital at the time, in fact Washington would be inaugurated in this city in just over 2 months. Pages 1, 3 & 4 are filled with ads, with news reports on page 2 including a report from Annapolis: "We have certain advices from Virginia that the election of Representatives has been decidedly favourable, six or seven of the elected are avowed Federalists." Also an item: "...six of the electors attended, we all gave our votes for General Washington sa president, and Colonel Harrison, our Chief Justice, ice President. I saw a letter form General Washington to the governor of Maryland in which he says there is great reason to think that five of the Virginia Representatives will be friendly to the government; and that those who are sanguine suppose there will be more."
Page 2 is mostly taken up with the: "Continuation of the Debate on the Bill for Appointing Electors" in the New York legislature.
Four pages, very nice condition.
