March 02, 1789

THE DAILY ADVERTISER, New York, March 2, 1789

* President-elect George Washington
* Arrival for inauguration

Remembering this issue was less than a month from Washington's inauguration, pg. 2 has a report datelined "George Town" noting in part: "Last Tuesday arrived in this town from Mount Vernon, his excellency George Washington, our late beloved chief...happy to understand that through the influence and perseverance of his excellency, the works of Patowmack in future will be carried on with spirit...to inform our readers that the general enjoys a perfect state of health. May guardian angels watch his precious life..." (see). Nice reference to hopes that the federal capital would end up in present-day Washington, D.C.
Four pages, never-trimmed margins, great condition.
