January 05, 1863

THE NEWBURYPORT HERALD, Massachusetts, Jan. 5, 1863

* President Abraham Lincoln
* Emancipation Proclamation
* Freedom for slaves - Negroes
* Battle of Stones River - Murfreesboro

Half a column at the top of the front page is taken up with the full text of the historic Emancipation Proclamation, headed; "Negro Emancipation Proclaimed" "By the President of the United States of America - A Proclamation" signed in type: Abraham Lincoln. Great to have this notable document on the top half of the front page.
Also on the front page as well as on pg. 2 are reports on the Battle of Murfreesboro with column heads: "Great & Bloody Battle In Tennessee" "Latest from the Battle In Tennessee" "The Rebel Morgan Defeated in Kentucky" "The Murfreesboro Battle" "The Battle of Murfreesboro". Page 3 has a nice recruitment ad.
Four pages, rejoined at the spine, very nice condition.
