May 08, 1863

NEW YORK HERALD, May 8, 1863

* Rare 18th North Carolina Infantry Regiment flag print

The front page has a nice one column print of the "Battle Flag of the Eighteenth North Carolina Regiment" with descriptive text on it as well (see photos). This also looks very much like the Confederate flag of which we are more familiar.
The front page also has much reporting on the historic Battle of Chancellorsville with additional reports on the bkpg., including a dispatch signed in type: Robert E. Lee, in which he comments on the battle, including: "...We have again to thank Almighty God for a great victory. I regret to state that General Paxton was killed, General Jackson severely and Generals Heth & A.P. Hill slightly wounded." Stonewall Jackson would later die from his wounds.
Eight pages, very nice condition.
