October 15, 1706

THE POST-BOY, London, England, Oct. 15, 1706

* "Treaty of Union" agreement
* England & Scotland to be united

This is a very significant issue on the history of the United Kingdom as the front page has a report datelined "Edinburgh, Oct. 4" which begins: "Yesterday the Parliament met with the usual solemnity & his Grace, the Lord High Commissioner's Commission being read, her Majesty's letter to the Parliament was also read, containing in substance, 'That since their last meeting, She had nominated Commissioners to treat of an UNION between Scotland and England, who, by their great Care and Diligence, had concluded a Treaty, and laid the same before Her Majesty; that She had called them together, that the Treaty might be under their consideration, and she hoped the terms would be acceptable to them. That the Union had been long desired by both nations...That an entire & perfect Union will be the solid foundation of lasting peace..." with more on this, carrying over to take over half a column on the back page.
This was the work that resulted Acts of Union 1707, the first being the Union with Scotland Act approved by the Parliament of England in 1706, and later the Union with England Act, approved by the Parliament of Scotland in 1707.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, two ornate engravings in the masthead, 8 1/4 by 14 inches, foxing throughout, otherwise good condition. An extremely significant issue and terrific to have this report in a London newspaper.
