Arizona in 1883 ... Gunfight at the OK Corral...

Item # 639435 HARPER'S MONTHLY, New York, bound volume for December, 1882 thru May, 1883  A great volume with much reporting on some of the romance of the Old West. Certainly the best item is the first article in the March issue, "Across Arizona", which takes 16 pages & is quite detailed with eleven prints including a: "Map of Southern Arizona" "Nortons Landing, On The Colorado River", "Pasqual, the Yuma Chief", "Yuma Indians At Home", a distant view of: "Tombstone", a "Street View In Tucson", "An Arizona Watering-Place" which shows Indians, and several more. Text includes talk of Billy the Kid and Curley Bill, plus good talk of the gun fight at the OK Corral with mention of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, Ike Clanton, and the McLowry brothers, as well as an illustration captioned: "The Sheriff of Tombstone & His Constituents." (see) A wealth of interesting reading on Arizona, written from when it was still the Old West.
But this volume has other nice articles as well, including "The Columbia River" in the December issue, with several nice prints including one of Mount Hood (see). "Southern California" also in the Dec. issue has prints of "Main St., Los Angeles", prints of Riverside, "Plaza at San Diego, Old Town" & more (see). The Jan., 1883 issue has a lengthy article: "In A Redwood Logging Camp" with many prints. The May issue has "The Brooklyn Bridge" with many prints including a great full page view of it (see).
The full volume with 972 pages, black library binding with gold ink at the spine, bindings in good condition, library stamp at the fore-edges, some damp staining at two of the margins, otherwise quite nice & clean.
