July 23, 1778

THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, July 23, 1778  Inside has a report from Philadelphia noting: "...account of the Trident being safe in the Delaware on the 5th of June...the part of the army which was to go by land from Philadelphia to New York were on their march in the Jersies...ready to proceed to New York with the rest of the forces, & a number of the inhabitants who had quitted that city being unwilling to remain there when it should be in the hands of the Provincials...an attack had been made on Gen. Pigot's forces on Rhode Island in which the Provincial forces were repulsed and several officers taken prisoners."
Another page has a letter concerning Spain in relation to America, including: "...there is not in the nature of things a more effectual way to rob Old Spain of her American territories than by supporting the Anglo-Americans in their independence...the British colonies were restrained by their dependence on England...By the independence of British North America this restrains would be taken off..." with more (see for portions). 
There is also some war-related content on the back page, including: "...The troops crossed into the Jerseys yesterday morning...on  their march to New  York after evacuating Philadelphia. Lord Howe...hourly expected to proceed to New  York..." (see).
Complete in eight pages, 8 1/4 by 11 inches, this issue is in very nice and clean condition.
