Inside has: "...from New York represent the situation of the unhappy prisoners remaining of Gen. Burgoyne's army as truly pitiable; they are marched to the furthest extremity of the American territories under the Allegheny mountains, 400 miles from the coast, almost starved and naked, having nothing but Indian bread for their subsistence..." (see).
Almost two-thirds of another are is taken up with: "American State Papers (Discovered in Mr. Laurens's Trunk)", concerning "Mr. Temple", consisting of various letters of recommendation for him who was sent to England to try to bring peace wieth America. Among them is one signed in type by: Geo. Washington (see photos).
Another page has an item: "The Americans labour to keep the people in a political ignorance with the greatest care and jealousy. No news-paper from New York is permitted to be circulated among the Colonists; the captive officers solicited that indulgence...Fabricated acts of the British Parliament are circulated among the Americans..." and more. The same page has a nearly column-long report on other matters from the Revolutionary War including some talk of the capture of Charleston and the battle at Camden, one bit including: "...some gentlemen had often expressed their dislike to the American war; no man could view it in a more detested light than he did: but since the Americans had declared themselves independent...the war with America was become a war of necessity..." with much more.
Eight pages, 8 1/4 by 11 1/4 inches, very nice, clean condition.
