* Henry Wirz trial - Andersonville prison


The back page has: "Out-Door Sports" "Base Ball" "The Grand Match At Brooklyn--The Atlantics The Victors--A Fine Display Of Batting". Summary describes the game as the second contest for the championship of the United States, and mentions in part: "...the presence of a force of police...had its preventive influence, but apart from that, the crowd was an American ball players crowd in its love of order and decorum...".
Page 5 has: "The Trial of Capt. Wertz to Begin To-day" "He is Accused of Willful Maltreatment of Prisoners" "That He Refused Proper Shelter & Necessary Food" "That He Ordered Rebel Soldiers to Kill Them Without Cause" "That He Caused Them to be Hunted & Killed by Bloodhounds" and more (see).
