Over half of page 2 is taken up with he state-of-the-union address of the President, signed in type: Th. Jefferson. A portion of his address deals with the new Louisiana Territory, just purchased from France the previous year. One paragraph begins: "With the Indian tribes established within our newly acquired limits, I have deemed it necessary to open conferences for the purpose of establishing a good understanding & neighbourly relations between us. So far as we have yet learned we have reason to believe that their dispositions are generally favorable and friendly..." (see photos for portions).
