Outrage over the attack of the H.M.S. Leopord upon the Chesapeake...
Item # 638615
July 10, 1807
NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., July 10, 1807 Page 2 has a nice report concerning the attack upon the frigate Chesapeake by the British ship Leopard, an embarrassment for the U.S. Navy which enraged the American public (see this hyperlink). It mentions in part: "...the late unprecedented outrage of Great Britain in demanding the privilege of searching a public armed vessel of the U.S.--compelling a submission to that demand by attacking the said U.S. frigate within our jurisdiction, when unprepared for resistance--wounding and murdering our fellow citizens & forcibly seizing & carrying away four of the crew of the said frigate..." (see) There is also much ftpg. editorial commentary on this event as well.
Four pages, nice condition.
