THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, May, 1747  The first article takes nearly 3 pages and is a: "Description of the Rhinoceros" which includes a print of one on a full page plate (see).
There are three articles on Prince of  Orange. Another page has an article which includes a print: "Method of Fixing a Machine for Land Measure" (see). Another article is titled: "Electricity Whence, and How Applicable".
Two pages are taken up with: "Ships taken on Both Sides" including several which were bound to or from North America & the West Indies.
Among other articles in this issue are: "Nature of the Distember among Cattle" "Surprising Phenomenon of a Human Body" "Description of a Hygrometer..." with a print of it; "Essay on Physiognomy" "Complaint on Bad Roads" and much more.
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has various news reports from throughout Europe.
Complete in 48 pages, measures 5 by 8 1/4 inches, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, and is in very good condition.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
