NILES' NATIONAL REGISTER, Washington City, March 30, 1839 Page 2 has a report: "Free Negroes" noting in part: "...legislature of Alabama have passed an act prescribing that every free person of color arriving in that state...shall be immediately lodged in prison & detained until the departure of the said vessel when the captain thereof shall be bound under a heavy penalty to take him away..." with more. Also: "From Texas" has various reports & ends with: "...The state of affairs in Texas is described as quite flourishing, with a fair prospect of a constant advance & improvement." Also: "The Anti-Duelling Law" in the District of Columbia (see).
Sixteen pages, 8 1/4 by 11 3/4 inches, nice condition.
