The very first issue of this short-lived 17th century newspaper......

Item # 638031

December 3, 1678

A PACQUET OF ADVICE FROM ROME: OR, THE HISTORY OF POPERY, London, Dec. 3, 1678  An unusual anti-Catholic newspaper which existed for less than 5 years before being suppressed. Attached at the back is a single sheet headed: "The Popish Courant" with its own dateline.
This is the very first issue, the "Numb. 1" issue as noted in the upper right of the front page. And more than just the issue, also included is the full title page for the entire volume (released in 1679) as well as the 6 page address: "To the Reader" in which the publisher explains his newspaper.  Rarely found.
The complete issue, 5 1/4 by 7 1/4 inches, a bit irregular at the spine margin withi the title page partially loose, otherwise good.

Item from Catalog 264 (released for November, 2017)...
