THE VERMONT CHRONICLE, Windsor, May 20, 1846

* U.S. declares war against Mexico
* Mexican-America War begins
* President James K. Polk

A fine issue reporting the beginning of the Mexican-American War. Page 2 has an article; "War With Mexico" prefaced with: "The absorbing intelligence of the week has related to the commencement of hostilities, and to the measures in progress at Washington for the vigorous prosecution of a war against Mexico..." with the details noted in an article headed: "Deplorable News From the Army" which details the skirmishes at the Nueces Strip, the initial battle of the war (see the web for details). This lengthy account takes an entire column. Following it on page 2 is the official: "War Proclamation Issued by the President on Wednesday Last" headed: "Proclamation" and signed in type: James K. Polk. This is followed by an editorial: "Who Commenced the War?"
Much other content including a ftpg article: "Conversion of the Jews, No. III" taking most of a column.
Four pages, rejoined at the spine, a bit of fold foxing, very nice condition.
