THE DAILY SOUTHERN GUARDIAN, Columbia, South Carolina, Dec. 28, 1864 

* VERY RARE

Among the front page "Telegraphic" reports are: "From Wilmington" which begins: "The bombardment of Fort Fisher reopened at 10 a.m. & continued furiously nearly all day..." Also: "From Virginia" and "From the North". The back page has a letter signed in type by: W. T. Sherman concerning the capture of Fort McAllister. Also two letters signed by General Geo. H. Thomas. Another report: "From Sherman's Army--The Situation at Savannah--Its Capitulation Expected" "The War News From Sherman" "Yankee Movements in Northern Virginia" "Around Petersburg" "Attack on Fort Fisher", plus there is a document signed in type by: Abraham Lincoln, calling for 300,000 more troops. More on the war as well. Columbia would fall to General Sherman in less than two months.
Complete as a single sheet issue with a full banner masthead, some old tape mends at the central fold, never bound nor trimmed, good condition.
