THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, June, 1767 Among the articles within are: "Abstract of the Lottery Act" "On the Luxury of the Times" "A Brief Account of the Troubles in Poland" "Natural History of Greenland" which takes over three pages; "Description of a New-invented Hygrometer" is accompanied by a full page plate of it; "Two Letters & Remarks on Mr. Cumming's Essay on Clock Work" and more.There is a full page plate showing two prints of: "Specimens of Modern Masters".
Most of a page is taken up with a sheet of music titled: "Song, Sung by Mr. Vernon, at Vauxhall".
There is a full page taken up with: "American News" including reports from Philadelphia, Boston, Charleston, S.C., (trouble with Indians), and Bridge Town in the Barbados Islands.
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle", taken up almost entirely with various European news.
The two full page plates mentioned are the only plates called for in this issue.
Complete in 52 pages with full title/contents page with an engraving of St. John's Gate, 5 by 8 inches evenly toned and in nice condition.
A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
