September 23, 1881

THE CLEVELAND HERALD, Ohio, Sept. 23, 1881

* President James S. Garfield death
* Lying in State at Capital
* Best title to have ?

The top of the front page has a nice print headed: "JAMES A. GARFIELD". Nearly three-quarters of the first column is taken up with various heads on his death & funeral including: "WITH HOMAGE"  "Many Thousands View the Body" "Of the Fallen Chieftain as It Lies in State" "Under the Great Dome of the Capitol" "Extensive Preparations for the Obsequies" and so much more (see). All of the front page relates to Garfield plus additional items inside as well.
Nice to have this report in a newspaper from Garfield's home state, and not far from his home in Mentor, Ohio.
Eight pages, large folio size, never bound nor trimmed, wear at the folds & margins with some minor text loss.
